Treatment for Opioid Use Disorder

The Healing Clinics now offers treatment for opioid use disorder using medication assisted treatment (MAT) for patients located in Mississippi and Louisiana.

MAT stands for Medication assisted treatment. This treatment includes buprenorphine, which is a safe and effective method to help people with an opioid use disorder stop using prescription pain medications, heroin, and other opioids.

How Does MAT Work?

Medication assisted treatment works by reducing cravings in the brain caused by a chemical imbalance. When used properly, the medications have no effect on function and provide a safe way to stop potentially dangerous substance use.

MAT treatment:

• Reduces symptoms of withdrawal.

• Provides help with recovery.

• Improves quality of life and overall health and wellbeing.

• Helps you live your life and feel like yourself again.

How Do I Know If I Qualify for Treatment?

Mississippi who are over 18 years old can qualify for treatment using MAT for opioid use disorder. Contact The Healing Clinics to find out more.

Why Suboxone?

Suboxone is an oral medication approved for office-based treatment of opioid use disorder. Suboxone blocks the effects of other opioids. Suboxone is composed of two medications: Buprenorphine and Naloxone. Buprenorphine offers several benefits to people for whom treatment in a methadone clinic is not preferred or is less convenient. Naloxone has poor absorption and is added in order to prevent the misuse of the medication. Treatment with Suboxone has been shown to be safe and effective.

Suboxone is an important part of medication assisted treatment. Patients will work closely with the MAT provider to achieve their goals.

What Patients Should Expect

Prior to starting treatment, you will have an MAT Overview Appointment. You will receive a physical exam and lab tests. Your MAT health care team will review instructions for Induction and determine a follow-up plan with you for Stabilization and Maintenance. Once you’ve completed your initial physical exam and consultation, you can use telemedicine on in-person appointments, which ever is more convenient for you.
