Do I Qualify for Medical Marijuana in Texas?

Conditions

As of September 1, 2025, the following conditions are eligible for treatment with low-THC cannabis under the Texas Compassionate Use Program: 
 

• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)

• Autism spectrum disorder

• Cancer

• Chronic pain (with the previous requirement to fail opioid treatment removed)

• Crohn’s disease or other inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)

• Epilepsy and other seizure disorders

• Glaucoma

• Hospice care or a terminal illness

• Incurable neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s diseases

• Multiple sclerosis (MS)

• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

• Spasticity

• Traumatic brain injury (TBI)

• Any other condition a certified CUP physician deems debilitating, an expanded eligibility, particularly for veterans. 

 

Conditions for veterans

Under the 2025 expansion, veterans have broader access to medical cannabis. A CUP-certified physician can approve a veteran for any condition deemed debilitating, which may include chronic pain, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, anxiety, and sleep disorders.
